NBA PRESEASON WEEK 1

Saturday, October 5th began the opening night of the NBA Preseason and the beginning stages of discovering who the next NBA "Heavy Weight Champion" for the 2013-2014 season was going to be. The NEW ORLEANS PELICANS  vs HOUSTON ROCKETS was the first match-up of the evening. First quarter the Rockets would get out to a commanding 11 point lead, out scoring the Pelicans in the first 33-22. Second quarter the Pelicans would make a come back, but the rockets would still hold the lead by the end of the half 31-24. Second half the Rockets would get back into the game, out scoring the Pelicans 34-29 in the third. Fourth quarter the Pelicans would make a astonishing come back, out scoring the Rockets 116-115. Leading scorers for the Pelicans were Anthony Marrow with 26 points, Austin Rivers with 21 points in 32 minutes and 5 ast. Leading scorers for the Rockets were James Harden with 21 points and 3 ast. and Dwight Howard with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 ast. The Rockets would go on to lose this heart breaking pre season opener against the Pelicans 116-115.

 The second key preseason match-up was on Monday, the MIAMI HEAT vs ATLANTA HAWKS . The Miami Heat came into their preseason opener ready to begin there season where they started last season, with winning there 2 second straight NBA title and there third NBA title overall. The Atlanta Hawks had a interesting off season, picking up a few key defensive and offensive assets to their roster. Along with the few key free agents this off season the heat picked up a new head coach and they were hopeing tonight would be the night that they could show case all the hard work they had done this off season. First quarter the Heat would get out to a strong lead, out scoring the Hawks 25-16. The Heat would continue to dominate, out scoring the Hawks in the second 24-14. The heat would be dominating at the half 49-30. Second half the Hawks would come out very strong , with a sense of urgency, out scoring the Heat 26-23 in the third. Fourth quarter the Hawks would battle back into the game and would make a come back  out scoring the heat in the fourth 31-20,but it would be to little to late. Leading scorers for the Heat were Chris Bosh with 21 points and Lebron James with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Leading scorers for the Hawks were Mike Scott with 13 points and Al Hordford with 10 points and 9 rebounds. The Heat would hold on to win the pre season opener 92-87.
